Straight answer: not announced.

The studio has addressed this once, in an August 2025 community Q&A. Someone asked plainly: “Will there be romances?”

The producer’s answer was neither yes nor no. He said the question clashes “in a very meaningful way” with the lore, story and world they’re building, then offered a hint: the character you play is “a very big deal in the world of Emberville”.

So the accurate position is: romance is neither confirmed nor denied.

The full exchange is worth reading

The question was direct: “Will there be romances?”

His first response: “That’s a very good question and we’ve thought a lot about this stuff.”

Then he said it clashes “in a very meaningful way” with the setting, story and world. He said he couldn’t explain exactly why, and gave a hint instead: the player character holds a special place in that world.

Later he said “yes” — but what followed was: “I heard you start saying that. I was like, yes, there are some good reasons for that.”

In other words, the answer is deliberately hedged, and the reason for hedging is narrative structure, not a lack of time.

Why the setting makes romance harder

Emberville’s premise: you wake up with no memories inside a magical prison where death doesn’t last.

The official dev journal adds that the world was shattered by a ritual, taking the people with it, and your job is to rebuild the town while piecing together who you are and what happened.

Inside that frame, your character’s identity is part of the central mystery. Writing a romance line that doesn’t fight that mystery is a genuine narrative problem. That’s why “clashes with the lore” is a fair description.

What character content exists instead

No romance doesn’t mean thin characters. What the store page and dev journal describe:

SystemDetail
Rescuing survivorsPeople you free in the dungeon return to town
Learning tradesSurvivors teach you their skills and secrets
QuestsYou help townsfolk with their many quests
Stories and diariesYou learn their stories. The studio even notes you can read their diaries when they aren’t looking
Voice acting22 announced performers. IGN confirmed most dialogue in the Prologue is voiced

IGN’s line: this is one of “the big selling points that Emberville is pushing” — a talent-rich cast that brings the world’s people to life.

What would change the answer

Only three things: an official announcement naming a romance or relationship system, a developer interview answering directly with a direction, or store page copy describing it.

This page follows the studio’s position. Until then, reading “diaries and NPC stories” as romance content is community interpretation, not official information.
